about
"M.S.F." was made by converting the audio portion of a video from Pornhub into MIDI data, setting it to play piano. The subsequent recording was then further processed with a granular sampler.
Artist statement: In my own work, I often pull audio from pornographic materials that can be easily found online. I use this material as a container of gay men’s sexuality where I interrogate my own experiences and perceptions of desirability and queerness. The sounds of mediated sexuality are processed and rearranged to the extent where the original audio is unrecognizable, in an attempt to compose something outside this realm. I attempt to create a “sonic possible world” to move beyond the entrapments of a heavily-mediated sexual identity and arrive at a renewed sense of self within pervasive hetero- and homonormativity.
